Halestorm, Chevelle, Shinedown, Staind, Kelly

Last month, I went to go see Halestorm, Chevelle, Shinedown, and Staind all Perform live in Brookings, South Dakota. Here's my notes...

HALESTORM:: While they were the least popular band to perform at the show, They were incredibly talented and entertaining to watch. They got everyone in the stadium involved in the show, and the singer, Lzzy, was both sexy and talented. When I met them briefly while getting their autographs after the show, I discovered that they were actually really nice people, as well. While their lyrics are quite...um...naughty, I would definately reccomend getting their album.

CHEVELLE:: This is actually the band I went to the concert to see; I'd never really listened to the other three before. I was slightly disappointed. They sounded nearly exactly as they had on their albums, only less exciting. While the lyrics in their songs are pretty good, the guitar, bass, and drums are all rather medeocre and they don't do much interesting on stage.

SHINEDOWN:: I hadn't really listened to Shinedown much, and I'd only heard what's on the radio. I wasn't too excited about that part, except for that I'd have something to brag about. I was immensly surprised to learn that, not only are they much better musicians then their popular songs would let on, they put on a great show!!! They had every single person in the entire stadium jumping up and down and singing along, even me (which would've been embarrassing if I hadn've been having so much fun) and my 48 year old dad. If you like Rock music and enjoy a good moshpit, I would definately reccomend Shinedown.

STAIND:: It was supposed to be the biggest band there. However, after Shinedown finished, Staind was...well, boring. I won't deny that they are excellent musicians, and the guitarist was rather entertaining to watch (he looked like he was going to break his neck from all the headbanging), but they needed to do a LOT more to live up to the expectations. I wasn't on the floor, so I got a kick out of watching everybody else crowd-surf. In my personal opinion, it's a sad occurance when it's more interesting watching the crowd then the band.

And then, yesterday, I went to the Minnesota State Fair so that I could go see Kelly Clarkson with Dad. I'm not a big fan of Kelly's earlier music, but the further she gets from her American Idol days, the better she gets, and, having liked her latest album quite a bit, was pretty excited. I was to be extremely disappointed when she cancelled due to illness. Which is lame, because I could hear the sound check from where I was eating my super-huge bucket of french fries.

My dad was more disappointed then I was, though. He's got a little bit of a crush on her.

Well...ttyl.
