Teen Ink

So I've got a bunch of stuff submitted to this TEen Ink thing, which is a site online where you submit poetry and visual art and pros and shit like that and then people vote and comment and rate and sometimes you get into their magazine, which would be awesome. So people should go to this link right here... http://www.teenink.com/search.php?smodel=all&sall_uid=1607 ...and vote and rate and comment and help me get into their magazine, because you have NO FREAKING IDEA how badly I want that and how cool that would be.

Help a girl out?

Lovez you,

Okalahoma!

So our school musical this year is Oklahoma!, which, in my opinion, is one of the most annoying musicals ever written. However, I get to play Ado Annie and that's fun, so it's okay.
We've been doing practices for about two weeks or so now, and Sean (the guy playing Jud) had only come to one practice. He showed up at one to say that he "wasn't sure" if he was going to be in the play or not, and we told him to either be in it or not so we could find a new Jud if we needed to, and he quit.
I'm torn between being murderously irritated and uncontrollably excited. First of all, when you sign up to do something, you do it. No excuses. However, I was starting to get sick of him after being at One Act rehersals with him for a whole month. Whatever. Mostly I'm just pissy cuz now we need to find another guy that's willing to sing. Do you know how difficult that is in this area? Apparently it counts as a point against someone's manlyhood to be in a musical. Who knew?
But other then that, it's good. Practices are reasonably fun, besides the annoyance of fidgety, "i-can't-sing-louder-then-a-whisper-even-though-every-other-time-I-open-my-mouth-I-try-to-drown-every-other-little-sound-out-just-because-I-can" choras kids, I mean. Not all of them. Just three and a half fourths of them.
Phew! I'm ok. **breathe!**

Writing

Writing is difficult. Those of you who actually have read my work (http://adjectives-on-a-typewriter.blogspot.com/) know that yeah, I can write a pretty decent poem and all that. But I can never seem to finish a short story or anything like that without a deadline. The one on Paranoid Schizophrenia that I wrote was written the same day it was due. It's not that I don't like writing them, it's that I get mad and think they aren't any good and then I quit. I mean, I know I'm being rediculous and that first drafts are SUPPOSED TO SUCK, but I just get mad and throw the notebook into the corner of my bedroom underneath my desk/shelf/whatever-the-hell-it-is reserved for discarded stories and cut up magazines and old photographs and sketches and leave them there. Once in a while I'll dig one up and work on it a little more, but it's never more then a page and I always throw it back into the pile. How am I ever going to get anything done if I continue like that? WTF!!!!!!!!!

So if anyone's got any ideas on how to make me kick my own butt out of the realm of procrastination and frustration, that would be positively lovely.

While you're at it, you can check out my other blog (link in the first paragraph )and give me constructive criticism, because I like that. (wow, aren't I just awesome at promoting? I should do that for a living. **heavy sarcasm**)

Paranoid Schizophrenia

The short story that accompanies this paper is up on my second blog, http://adjectives-on-a-typewriter.blogspot.com/

I apologize for any typos ahead of time, as the stupid peice of crap would not let me copy and past my three-page essay. (throws computer out window) Don't judge me too harshly for not wanting to double check.

~~~~
Schizophrenia is characterized mainly by hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized speech or behavior. In most cases, a teacher may be the first to notice a problem, as schizophrenia causes educational problems such as difficulty concentrating, behavior or performance inconsistancies, or reactions that seem inappropriate to the situation.
The standardized diagnosis for the U.S. and most other countries states that three diagnosis criteria must be met:
1) Two or more of the following symptoms for most of a one month period; delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or catatonic behavior, disorganized speech or a lack of emotional response, speech, and/or motivation. If the delusions are judged to be bizarre, or if the hallucinations consist of hearing one or more voices commentating the patient's actions/thoughts or conversing with each other, then only one symptom is needed.
2) Social or occupational dysfunction.
3) Duration--The patient must exhibit continuous signs for at least six months, including at leaste one month of displayed symptoms.
A patient cannot be diagnosed with schizophrenia if symptoms of a mood or pervasive developmental disorder are present. It also must be confirmed that the patient does not have a medical illness that could produce schizophrenia-type symptoms (however rare the occurance). Some of these include metabolic disturbance, systemic infection, syphilis, HIV, epilepsy, brain lesions, or delirium.
In the paranoid variety of schizophrenia, paranoid delusions (such as believe the government is watching your every move) and hallucinations (usually auditory) are the most prevalent symptoms. The delusions of a paranoid schizophrenic will be focused on a central idea, usually the one that he or she is being singled out for harm. Another type of common delusion in paranoid schizophrenics is delusions of grandeur, such as the idea that one can fly, or is famous. The hallucinations of a person with this form of schizophrenia are usually auditory rather then visual. These auditory hallucinations are almost always a voice or voices, and may talk to the patient or each other. In many cases, the voices give a running critique of the patient's actions, emotions, or thoughts, harass or insult the patient, or tell them to do things.
Records of schizophrenia before the 1800s are rare. The possible existing accounts of the time period are difficult to confirm as schizophrenia, because of the differences in culture or language. there are various Greek, Roman, and Egyptian examples of medical literature that describe a similar condition, but the 14-volume medieval Arabic encyclopedia, "Al-Quanun fi al-Tibb" ("The Canon of Medical", is most promising. This medical and psychological text talks about junan Mufrit, or Severe Madness, which is defined by schizophrenia-type symptoms.
James Matthew Tilly is the first documente, d case of paranoid schizophrenia. He was committed to Bethlem Psychiatric Hospital on January 28,1797, after accusing the home secretary of treason and complaining of plots against his life. He also believed that a gang of criminals skilled in "pneumatic chemistry" lived near the asylum and were torturing him with rays from an "air loom." According to tilly, they only used this on the important political figures of the day (and himself, of course) and were forcing them to do the gang's bidding. Their purpose? Espionage.
In 1853, the syndrome was defined as demence precoce, or early dementia, because of the dementia-like symptoms affecting young adults nad teenagers, the term schizophrenia didn't appear until 1908, when Eugene Bleuler realized that the disorder was not a form of demential, as his patients gradually improved rather then deteriorated. He proposed that it was, instead, a separation of function between personality, thinking, memory, and perception. his term (Greek schizein, to split, and phren, mind) is now the common name used for this disorder.
There have been many speculations about the causes of schizophrenia. for a period of time in the early twentieth centure, schizophrenia was considered a hereditary condition. Thousends of schizophrenics in the U.S., Germany, and Scandinavia were sterilized and, under Hitler, killed.
A current theory suggests that combined factors of genetics, early environment, and social processes contribute to the development of schizophrenia. Brain scans of schizophrenics consistently show that dopamine activity in the mesobolic pathway is considerably higher then in the average person. However, no single cause, organic or otherwise, has been determined.
The most common treatment for schizophrenia is a dosage of an anti-psychotic medication. This tends to suppress the dopamine levels in the brain. Psychotherapy or social rehabilitation is an important part of recovery, as well. In some cases, a patient may be forced into hospitalization, as the fearful delusions of a paranoid schizophrenic may cause them to become violent if they feel the need to defend themselves.
Schizophrenia is often accompanied by obsessive-compulsive disorder--far more often then can possibly be a coincidence--but the direct connection has not discovered. Schizophrenics are also likely to have major depression or an anxiety disorder, and almost half the schizophrenic population will attempt suicide in their lifetime. The lifetime occurance of substance abuse is about 40% higher then in a non-schizophrenic. Long-term unemployment and poverty or homelessness is also very common. The average life expectancy of person with schizophrenia is about ten to twelve years less then those without this disorder, due to other increased physical health problems and the higher suicide rate.
Paranoid schizophrenics are often looked on with fear and pity, and with good reason. Schizophrenia changes a person's perception of reality--their minds are almost literally undone. Nobody knows precicely what causes it, but we get closer with every study. For now, schizophrenics remain under the power of their delusions, and tehre isn't much we can do about that.
Gluten.
What is it about gluten that is so tastey? mmm, gluten.
Seriously, though. My friend is not allowed to eat anything with gluten in it, and everything that is on the list of stuff she can't eat is tastey, and everything on the list of stuff she can eat is revolting. Well, except for like, fruit and veggies and velveeta and stuff. Mmm, tastey.
So all of this got me asking--what the hell is gluten? I went onto Wikipedia (the Free Encyclopedia), and typed "gluten" into the search engine. What did I discover, do you ask? Well, basically gluten is a combination of the two proteins gliadin and glutenin, and about eighty percent of the wheat seed is gluten. It gives bread dough it's elasticity, adds chewiness to baked bagels and such (mmm, bagels. yummy!).
So apparently only about half a percent of the U.S. population has an adverse immune response to gluten, and the only cure is avoiding gluten all together. In our times, it's uber hard because MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) has gluten in it (imagine that *Sarcasm*). This is translate for "All that has no gluten is disgusting."
So, basically, I told you all that just to say "pity those who eat no gluten! Pity themmm!!!"
That's all, folks!
Bra Burning
I was bra/shoe shopping this weekend and the sizes in both departments pissed me off so badly that I have officially decided that I am going to get a ton of people together will all of the bras that never fit right, and we are going to BURN THEM. (I'm picking on bras because at least the shoe department had shoes in my sizes--they just didn't have the ones I wanted.)
Apparently, they seem to think that 34Ds and women with size 10 1/2 feet only wear tennis shoes and sports bras. Really. I like a cute bra as much as the next girl; it makes me feel pretty. So when I go to buy a bra and I find NO 34Ds in the entire 100 square foot area that isn't a sports bra, I get pretty pissed. I had to buy a 36D, which is working out just fine besides for the fact that it's just a little too big around the middle part.
They had pretty bras in sizes for all the way up to 44D, too. This is basically saying that only larger women can have big boobs. I am sick of this!!!!
Not only that, but why do the cute bras always have to come with a thong? Really? I live with people who are fond of giving wedgies--I CANNOT wear a thong. But that's not even the point. Apparently a girl has to be slutty to be pretty, and that pisses me off. Even the cutsie blue-and-white polka dots came with a thong!!!!
I do not have to bow to society's rules of what is and isn't pretty, and I will NOT. I will go braless if I go on another shopping trip and find nothing but sports bras in my size. No lie. I will steal every bra in the Victoria Secret and light them on fire.
AAAAAHHHH!!!!!! It pisses me off more then the helpless little skanks on video games that always get eaten by zombies due to their own stupidity.
I feel better, now.
Romeo and Juliet
is my absolute favorite story EVER. It's well written, has a beautiful plot line, the characters have cool names (I mean, Mercutio? Come on! Awesome.), and it pretty much shaped the modern love story. I'm pretty sure that the one line from Shakespeare that everyone knows is "Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?"
Even if people don't understand the incredible symbolism of that line, they at least know that the line symbolises something.
So why do we love Romeo and Juliet? There's something about the story that enchants us. Even though we know it's rediculous to meet someone, fall in love, get married, and kill yourself for them in less then a week, the two lovers represent the kind of love that everyone wants, no matter how much they deny it--the consummate kind of love that brings two people together not through what my friends Tricia and Billie refer to as "Lust at First Site," but through true, complete, love that isn't lust, but a deep spiritual connection.
Romeo and Juliet's love for eachother changes them. Before he meets Juliet, Romeo is a typical young man (for that time). He hangs out with his friends, jokes, goes to parties, not too unlike the way we live. Of course, when we first meet him, he's pining over another beautiful woman, Rosaline, much in the same way a normal boy would pine for a woman he lusts after. As a matter of fact, the Friar says to Romeo when the younger man comes to him about Juliet, "Young men's love, then, lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes." And this is true of Romeo--until he meets Juliet. When he meets her, he not only thinks she's beautiful, but he loves to talk with her, too.
Juliet changes, as well. When she first appears, she is an obedient girl, doing as her parents tell her to. Had Romeo not gone to that party at her father's house, she would have gotten married to Paris, wouldn't have had true love but led a happy life, the same way her mother had. But something changes, and suddenly, she's found something more important to her then simply pleasing her parents and nurse, and she will do anything to keep from losing that. This is why, even though it terrifies her, she is willing to pretend she has died so that she may be banished with Romeo.
So I think that's why we love Romeo and Juliet so much. Even though Romeo completely destroys his own happiness, even though Juliet is willing to hurt her parents and nurse, we wish we could have someone that we could be brave like that for.
Maybe I'm just being stupid, but I believe in that kind of love. I mean, I'm not idiotic enough to think that it's easy to find or that everybody even finds it. But I do believe in it for everyone.
"A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorry, will not show his head.
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things.
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished,
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo."
If You Don't Like TMI Posts, Don't Read This.
So, yeah. My period. It's acting funny. Meaning...I haven't gotten it for months, and now that I got it, I feel sick. Not just a "oh, I don't feel very good today, I'm going to take a nap and I'll feel better" sort of suck. It's more of an "Oh my god I feel like I'm going to hurl and my head feels like it's going to explode, somebody KILL ME" sort of sick. I don't think that's normal. Maybe I'll go on birth control just to lose the goddamn period. It's not like I'm going to be having sex any time soon...
That's all. Sorry if I made you feel sick by talking about my feeling sick.
School
Don't get me wrong, I understand the need to seek knowledge beyond one's own ken. I realize that people need to be taught things, so that we can continue to make the world a better place and rid life of suckiness. HOWEVER, I think that dictating a persons life through how they did in highschool is a MAJOR DICK MOVE!!!!!
Fuck! I know I'm smart, people I'm friends with know I'm at least reasonably smart, but I seriously think that school is just another way to shoot down a student's self esteem and make our lives suck. Because if we do badly in school, it will haunt us for the rest of our lives.
I don't know. Maybe it's just because I still haven't finished that stupid test in American Literature and have had some issues getting some things in. Whatever. I just think that the American school system SUCKS BALLS. :( grrrrr...
Moving on...
2012!!! End of the world!!! bla bla bla bla bla!!! woooo!!! What the fuck? Seriously, I'm having some issues with this whole thing where people are playing up that "OMG THE WORLD'S GOING TO END IN THE YEAR 2012!!!!" load of bullshit. Not that I think it couldn't happen, but they're making freaking money off of it! Really? This is a serious issue!! Nostradamos (spelling?) predicted the end of the world, and all of his other predictions have come true so far. The Mayans and the Incas and the Egyptians are known for having predicted things really well, and they predicted that the world would be destroyed in a catastrophic plethora of earthquakes and volcano eruptions and tsunamis and giant cosmic snakes.
What do you think? Is the world going to end in two years? Or is it all just a load of superstitious bull?
hmm...
Klingon is a lot harder then it looks.
I got it into my head that I was going to learn to speak Klingon, and I have determined that I am completely, totally, and utterly insane. I mean, the person who created it was very dedicated, and it has a completely believeable grammar system and alphabet. So, so far, the only thing I kind of know how to say is "Hab SoSll' Quch!" which is an insult that directly translates to "Your mother has a smooth forehead!" (I wanted to be able to insult people in Klingon and not get in trouble, but now that I know what it means I don't think I'll ever be able to say it with a straight face.)
So, I googled a few things and I almost know how to pronounce some stuff, but it's going to take a LOT of work. I think I'm just going to stick with knowing how to pronounce the stuff and just learn a few need-to-know phrases. Some of them are these:
Yes. (answer to yes/no question)-- HIja' or HISlaH
No. (answer to yes/no question)-- ghobe'
Yes, OK, I'll do it.-- lu' or luq
No, don't, I won't.-- Qo'
Hello. (Roughly, "What do you want?")--nuqneH
What's happening?-- qaStaH nuq? Huh? nuqjatlh?
I understand.-- jIyaj
I don't understand.-- jIyajbe'
Good! (expression of satisfaction)--maj
Well done!-- majQa'
Where is the bathroom?-- nuqDaq 'oH puchpa''e'
Come in-- yI'el (to more than one person:--pe'el)
Come here.-- HIghoS
Go away.-- naDevvo' yIghoS (to more than one person-- naDevvo' peghoS)
Open the door!-- lojmIt yIpoSmoH!
Don't be silly.-- yIDoghQo' (to more than one person-- peDoghQo')
Your mother has a smooth forehead!-- Hab SoSlI' Quch! (Note: this is a powerful insult; don't say it to friends.)
Today is a good day to die.-- Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam
We are Klingons!-- tlhIngan maH!
Happy birthday.-- qoSlIj DatIvjaj (to more than one person-- qoSraj botIvjaj)
What time is it?-- 'arlogh Qoylu'pu'? (Literally, "How many times has it [presumably some traditional hour alarm] been heard?")
Shut up!-- bIjatlh 'e' yImev (to more than one person--Sujatlh 'e' yImev)
That's great news!-- buy' ngop (Literally, "The plates are full")
Am I supposed to eat this?-- Dochvam vlSop net plH'a'?
You're hot. Want to make out?-- bl'lHqu'. Ha' maroSchuq?
So if you happen to speak Klingon and have any tips, please share.
Luvz,
Brii333
p.s...Do you think Klingon would be accepted as a foreign language for an application? Hmm...something to think about.
Lady Gaga
So, everyone in the youtube comments are going on and on and on and on about how much they hate Lady Gaga or (in one case) "omg it's GUY Gaga get it right," or Man Gaga Slut Gay Bitch bla bla bla bla bla SHUT UP!!!!!!
For the love of Hermes!!! You would think that all anyone cared about was her supposed "penis" and how she's (I guess) male. For one, she's not male. She's got a little extra fat on her pubic bone and, since she's so thin, it's really easy to see. It is possible to get that surgically removed, but I guess she doesn't care to (and good for her!). It's not a penis, she's not a man. She IS bisexual. You can see this in her videos (especially the one for 'Love Game'). Honestly, in clothes like that, you would be able to see every detail of a penis.
That said, I am going to be very honest and say that I like Lady Gaga. She's very open about who she is and isn't afraid to express her individuality. I think that's awesome.
Also, if you watch a live video of her, she's a very good vocalist.
Alright, I'm done.
2 Greek Myths Summerized
Phoenix
It appears that the Greeks took the idea of the Phoenix from the ancient Egyptians, who closely associated the red and gold bird with fire and the sun god Ra. The phoenix is a sacred creature and is said to live for either 500 years. It lived in Phoenicia next to a well and, at dawn every day, it bathed in the well and Helios (or Apollo, depending on the myth) would stop his chariot to listen to it sing.
At the end of its life, the phoenix would build a nest of cinnamon sticks and light them on fire. The bird and the nest would burn to ashes. A baby phoenix would rise from the ashes, and take the ashes of the dead bird in an egg of myrrh and bring it to Heliopolis (City of the Sun).
The Greeks and Romans were the first to call it by the name Phoenix, or φοίνιξ, because of its purple-red and crimson feathers. They and the Romans both pictured it much like a peacock or an eagle.
Orion and Merope
Orion was the son of Poseidon and the gorgon Eurvale. He was a man of gigantic proportions, and a hunter. When he was a young man, Orion fell in love with Merope, daughter of the king Oenopion. Oenopion did not approve of the match, and was rather slow in arranging the marriage. Impatient, Orion raped Merope. Oenopion was furious and decided to take revenge. He got Orion drunk, and when the young man fell asleep, the king put his eyes out and threw him out towards the sea.
Orion wandered about, blind, until Hephaestus, the smith god, saw and took pity on him. Hephaestus gave him a young boy to put on his shoulders as a guide. With this boy, Orion made his way east, where the rising sun restored his sight.
Angry and vengeful, Orion set out to punish Oenopion, but Hephaestus predicted this and built the king a hidden chamber under his palace, where he hid until Orion left out of frustration.
I did tell you I'd put them up after I finished summerizing them...
Anyhow, I love mythology, especially that of Greece and Egypt. Even though it's often violent and morbid, it just shows that the human race has always been violent and morbid. TV didn't make it worse, it just made it more apparent.
A few things I found interesting...
First of all, the Phoenix. There were stories of a Firebird in many cultures--Egypt, Greece, China, Rome...probably more. This shows a point that I've tried to make several times; why couldn't it be true? Humans like to have explainations for things, so why can't they explain why all these cultures, some of whom never met, (although the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians did meet) manage to have some of the same stories? Vampires, sea serpents (or the kraken), giants... you get my drift...
Also, Merope--The name Merope means 'beautiful,' or something like it. In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, we learn that Voldemort's mother's name was Merope Gaunt. I find it interesting how Rowling took someone so ugly (eyes facing two different directions, dirty, ect.) have a name that means 'beautiful.' Actually, quite a few of the names in the Harry Potter series comes from mythology. Just a random train of thought I thought I'd post...
Catch Up
It's been an aweful long time since I've updated my blog. :P Unfortunately, my internet time is much limited since Mom put her foot down about my going to Dad's house every weekend. Also, since school started back up now, I've been UBER busy. With the combination of my new status as Junior, lots of homework, art club, FCCLA, and practice for solo competition/All-State Choir try-out preprations, I'm pretty busy. I also have a very long booklist to start on; I just finished reading "Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd" (which was excellent) and am now reading "A Journy to the Center of the Earth" (which is...interesting). I'm thinking to join Knowledge Bowl, too, I just don't know if my distracted brain is full of enough random knowledge to do that.
I also just started a beginner jazz/ballet/tap dance class for teenagers, and it's pretty difficult...for someone who hasn't had a Phy Ed. class since the nineth grade.
But...my classes are good. There's the usual--geography, geometry, American literature... but all the rest are electives!!! This semester I'm taking Psychology, which is fascinating even if it is insanely difficult; Choir, which is as easy as usual, even if it is fun; Mythology, which I happen to be doing the homework for right now (I'll post my summerizations of the Pheonix and Orion and Merope stories when I finish); and then there's Drawing and Design. That last one is not as easy as it sounds. The self-portrait part was hell (I've never been one to stare into a mirror studying my features more then necessary), so I just guessed at what I look like and then changed it up a lot. Mrs. B can't fail me--I followed all the requirements with shading and preportions. So what if I filled the eyes in completely black and made my hair look as if it were being woven by a ginormous spider?
Hmm...what else...not much...
Oh!
I've got some more things put up on the Teen Ink web site. If you'd like to vote for any of my poetry/prose/whatever it is, pleeeease do so...
Harry Potter Withdrawls...
I find myself going through severe J.K. Rowling withdrawls. This happens sometimes if it's been a while since a new book or movie came out. (Except then I watch a movie and have to go read one of the books because it's just NOT THE SAME.) Only this time, it's WAYYYY worse.
Why is it worse, you might be asking? Well, I will tell you; it's worse because THERE'S NO MORE BOOKS TO WRITE!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! **insert unintelligable choking noise here**
My mother's girlfriend gave me a copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in second grade. I started reading it the summer after, and I was hooked. I remember being upset because my dad wouldn't let me finish it until I read The Sorceror's Stone, so I read that one in about a week (pretty good for an eight-year-old). That summer led to a four-year-long, rabidly focused obsession. (Seriously, ask anyone who knew me in elementary school. It was completely and totally rediculous, but you couldn't tell me that: I would've bitten your head off.) In seventh grade, it died down a little bit...mostly.
Annnnyhoo, I had to get some of that out of my system...
Now, on the subject of whatever J.K. is going to write next...
I think that she should write it on one of Harry's and Ginny's children--maybe Albus. It seems to me that, what with all the work that she put into the wizarding world and Hogwarts, it would be a waste not to keep using it.
Lemme know what you think.
Halestorm, Chevelle, Shinedown, Staind, Kelly
Last month, I went to go see Halestorm, Chevelle, Shinedown, and Staind all Perform live in Brookings, South Dakota. Here's my notes...
HALESTORM:: While they were the least popular band to perform at the show, They were incredibly talented and entertaining to watch. They got everyone in the stadium involved in the show, and the singer, Lzzy, was both sexy and talented. When I met them briefly while getting their autographs after the show, I discovered that they were actually really nice people, as well. While their lyrics are quite...um...naughty, I would definately reccomend getting their album.
CHEVELLE:: This is actually the band I went to the concert to see; I'd never really listened to the other three before. I was slightly disappointed. They sounded nearly exactly as they had on their albums, only less exciting. While the lyrics in their songs are pretty good, the guitar, bass, and drums are all rather medeocre and they don't do much interesting on stage.
SHINEDOWN:: I hadn't really listened to Shinedown much, and I'd only heard what's on the radio. I wasn't too excited about that part, except for that I'd have something to brag about. I was immensly surprised to learn that, not only are they much better musicians then their popular songs would let on, they put on a great show!!! They had every single person in the entire stadium jumping up and down and singing along, even me (which would've been embarrassing if I hadn've been having so much fun) and my 48 year old dad. If you like Rock music and enjoy a good moshpit, I would definately reccomend Shinedown.
STAIND:: It was supposed to be the biggest band there. However, after Shinedown finished, Staind was...well, boring. I won't deny that they are excellent musicians, and the guitarist was rather entertaining to watch (he looked like he was going to break his neck from all the headbanging), but they needed to do a LOT more to live up to the expectations. I wasn't on the floor, so I got a kick out of watching everybody else crowd-surf. In my personal opinion, it's a sad occurance when it's more interesting watching the crowd then the band.
And then, yesterday, I went to the Minnesota State Fair so that I could go see Kelly Clarkson with Dad. I'm not a big fan of Kelly's earlier music, but the further she gets from her American Idol days, the better she gets, and, having liked her latest album quite a bit, was pretty excited. I was to be extremely disappointed when she cancelled due to illness. Which is lame, because I could hear the sound check from where I was eating my super-huge bucket of french fries.
My dad was more disappointed then I was, though. He's got a little bit of a crush on her.
Well...ttyl.
